Fantastic first person story of a World War II bomber pilot and his journey from small town America, around the world, and back. Written more as a memoir instead of a novel, Mr. Rohde's story is a true inspiration. His story highlights the struggles and sacrifices made by all Americans during the war years. As a military and commercial pilot, his story provided me perspective on the gains made in not only war fighting but in aviation in general. These men were fearless and faced incredible odds every day. A wonderful story written by a true American hero!
Let me start by saying I am not a book reader. However, this book quickly makes you want to turn the next page to see what happens to Ken and his family as a member of the Infantry and Air Corps during WWII. This is written more as if Ken is talking to you, not as if you are simply reading a book. I felt as if I was flying with him during those 35 missions, not as if I was reading about years later. This is more than worth your time and money. If you enjoy history, this book is for you. If you enjoy flying, this book is for you. If you enjoy hearing first hand stories of the world’s greatest generation, this book is for you! As a retired AF Aviator I found this a must read book on the life of a WWII Aviator!
